One external USB 3.0 drive only connects to the left USB 3.0 port, another one connects only to the right USB 3.0 port.
Reversing them is not possible.

I have a peculiar problem with my USB 3.0 ports:

My hardware:
1. A Samsung i7 Ultrabook Model NP940X3G-K02NL with a 256GB SSD, and 2 USB 3.0 ports, one left, one right.
2. A Samsung Story 2TB External USB 3.0 hard disk drive, with its own power supply
3. A Seagate Backup Plus 4TB External USB 3.0 hard disk drive, with its own power supply

My problem is that I can ONLY connect the Sanmsung drive to the right USB 3.0 port,
and the Seagate drive ONLY to the left USB 3.0 port.

In any other configuration, the computer USB 3.0 ports will not connect te drives.

I did the following testing to see if I could fix this problem, but without success:

1. Update all the software and drivers for the Samsung Ultrabook, from Samsung.com
2. Install all Windows 8.1 updates
3. Update the USB drivers in the Device Manager of Windows 8.1
4. Connect other USB devices to the computer ports (left and right): mobile phone, external 500GB drives, all OK.
5. Connect the Samsung and Seagate drives to another (USB 2.0) computer: all conections OK.

I hope that you have an idea what more can I do to fix this strange problem?

I have also contacted Samsung and Seagate about this, but so far, no solution...

Thank you,

Rolf Schreiner
