Problems with new graphics card

I just ordered and installed a refurbished Sapphire R9 280x Toxic in my PC today, and I'm having some issues. The Toxic has two 8-pin connectors, and I hooked up my power supply to both. I hooked up all my other cables up to my setup, including the HDMI of course. The GPU was obviously getting power, because the light on the card (visible from outside) was on. However, after sitting there for a few moments, the screen was still black, and remained so for the next 5 minutes it was plugged in. My monitor simply said "No signal" when the HDMI was secured in the port. So obviously I was confused, and I unplugged everything to check if everything on the inside was looking correct. After poking around for awhile, everything seemed to be in place, so I went back and plugged in only the power cord and the HDMI, and turned it on. This time however, it began to beep and blink in sync. I assumed that was a bad thing, so I just turned it off. At this point I don't want to try much of anything with it, for I fear that I could mess something up. So if anyone has any ideas of what may work, please go ahead and reply.

Thanks in advance!

Solution
If your motherboard was beeping, pay attention to how many beeps and the pattern. It's an error code of sorts, you can look up what they mean.

So should I run it again, and let it just beep away? I felt as if the beeping was a bad thing and turned off my computer as soon as possible.

If the beeping doesn't stop then I have no idea what's up. But generally it is a pattern telling you what's wrong. For example, 5 beeps is usually a processor problem.

I'll try to reseat it here in a bit, and I don't believe my motherboard supports crossfire. I only have one PCIe V 3.0. However I do have 3 PCIe 2.0.

So I ended up reseating my card and plugging everything in again. There were six beeps in total. After the beeps went through, my computer went back to the black screen with "No signal" still floating about.

So I just reseated my GPU again, and this time it seemed to work. After the six beeps and about 5 minutes of waiting, my display turned on, a very pleasant surprise. Thanks guys for the support, you're awesome! :D
