I was thinking about upgrading the CPU from i5 to i7. and the just getting another board so I use the i5. I'm trying to decide to either build a new better mini-itx rig or upgrade current rig and use the old parts to recreate the original rig. probably less money if I go that route

This what I have now. which is great. but I'd like to have it just for gaming rather multiuse cause it looks great on large screen

Prodigy bitfenix case
Asus P8H77-I Mini itx Motherboard
Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge- Also thinking about upgrading to i7
XFX R7850 Radeon graphics card- Upgraded to GTX 970-

You need a 3rd Gen. Core i7, you should think about 3770k if you want more cache memory, more frequency, and more overclocking capability.

If I get that I guess I'm good on not having to futureproof the CPU for a while. You think the Mobo will hold up? And if this the case then I could just find a $100 or less motherboard and $45 case, some ram and PCU and just reuse the GPU and CPU. probably would cost me under $300 to duplicate the original build which if I drop in better card is current console gen specs

I'm happy. for the most part I am just wondering if now is the time to future proof it. And I like it so much that I'd rather have in our entertainment room for just movies and gaming. But I'd need put a rig back in the home office. Which is why I was thinking

If I upgrade the CPU on the 1st rig. Then I can just find a good deal on mobo and use i5 on it use the XFX r7850 and buy a decent case etc.

But if the mobo is obsolete the most sense is to just to build a new rig instead of just upgrading the CPU. The link you provided is a pretty damn good mobo. I think it's better than mine due to it having wifi. If I found one for $150 bucks or less then it would be the best of both world.

And I guess I'll just search or mobo/cpu combo to use with my extra GPU. For now just invest in a TV and HDMI Splitter. I'll still need a computer thats good for draft/photoshop and casual gaming

lol I love the case. I think bitfenix makes like the mini-itx cases around. the mobo I have does OC but I don't use it. I'm still a little to green to test those waters
