I would (and did) take the MSI GTX 970 Gaming G4. On low load, the fans don't spin and that means dead silent.
About the lifespan: We don't know it yet, as both cards are relatively new. So, we just can assume the lifespan.

Thats a good idea, as both cards perform very well and similar. No, Gigabyte does not have any issue with it. Now, that you mention it, the MSI 970 have an coil whine issue (got it too, but resolved it with a soundcard). So, you should be safe to buy Gigabyte card. Its one of the best on the market.
