Hi Everyone,

I'm planning to embark on my first gaming PC build (for the past few years I've been using gaming laptops as my work/lifestyle didn't favour having a gaming desktop, however that has changed, plus i had a little accident involving my laptop and a mug of coffee). I'm a complete newbie when it comes to this sort of thing, so I'm not entirely sure or confident about some of my decisions so far.

I've decided to go with an i7-4790k cpu (with a corsair H100i water cooler). I'd like to be able to over-clock both the CPU and GPU (going with an EVGA GTX 970, I'll probably go SLI with another one in a year or two). I'm hoping to play Witcher 3 at 1080p, as well as heavily modded Skyrim, Farcry 4 and GTA V, all running on Ultra settings.

I've been having a hard time trying to decide what motherboard I should go with (Choosing between Asus and Gigabyte). So far I've been looking at-

[urlExt=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132118]ASUS Z97-A[/urlExt]

I've read some reviews on newegg and Amazon for each of them, and the positive reviews seem to give the motherboards decent amounts of praise, but I've noticed more negative reviews for the Asus boards than the Gigabyte ones (and the negative reviews seem to be pretty horrific in some cases. DOA boards, Issues with returns and repairs and customer service woes have me slightly more hesitant about ASUS). I also read in some of the older reviews from last year that there were issues installing windows 8.1 when using one of the Asus motherboards, but I think it might have been fixed since then with an update.

Would you recommend any of these boards for the build I'm considering?(if not, are there any others that you would suggest instead?). Also, would there be any compatibility issues with my build? will the power supply be strong enough?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers!!

I like ASUS HERO VII HERO. It is a quality board. I have an ASUS FORMULA VII. I love it. ASUS customer service is good to ease your mind.. The Hero is a gaming motherboard designed and stamped by ROG. Has good overclocking potential foe CPU and Memory. The bios is AWESOME...... Not saying that Gigabyte is bad Though... It looks cool also I personally like the color scheme of the ASUS board especially when I added 4 red led fans...
