Thanks for the reply. On Gigabyte's website, it says, "To enable AM3+ AMD FX-Series CPU support, please update your motherboard with the most current BIOS found in your motherboard’s download"
section. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4717#ov

Can you verify if what the website says is true? I don't have a backup CPU and I'm still scared that the board won't work without bios update.

What do you mean by V4? I only see revision 1 and 2 of the board... http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5194#ov

By V4, are you referring to rev. 2? I can't find any rev. 2 of the UD3P in Canada so should I go for another motherboard, perhaps the Asus M5A97 R2.0? I only plan on doing mild overclocking in the future.

EDIT* Ok this is REALLY confusing. On the Newegg page for the UD3P, it shows the box of Revision 1, but if you scroll down a bit, under the "overview" tab, it clearly shows a picture of Revision 2. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128627

Never mind I was thinking of another board GA-990FXA-UD3. GA-970a-ud3p has 2 Revisions, R2 supports that CPU out of the box and R1 may need a bios update which isn't real hard to do. If the R1 board was made in the last 12 months it will have been updated for you. I apologies for the confusion similar thread on 2 separate forums. The Asus M5A97 R2.0 is a decent board as far as quality is concerned but the VRM design is lacking and overclocking FX-8XXX CPU's nets mix results, Heat and sometimes system stability issues. The Giga board is a better option of you wish to play around with Overclocking 4.5ghz and above.

Ah I see. On the Newegg page, it says "FX / Phenom II / Athlon II / Sempron 100 Series," and on the Gigabyte website, "Supports AMD AM3+ FX / AM3 Phenom™ II, Athlon™ II series Processors." So I guess it implies the newest Rev. 1 boards were all made in the last two month and don't need a BIOS update? I'll probably go with Gigabyte, but the Newegg page doesn't specify which revision it is and shows two conflicting pictures of a Rev. 1 and a Rev. 2 . :(

Alright, guess I'll call Newegg tomorrow. Thanks a lot for your time.
