The hard drive on my Toshiba Satellite L875D-S7332 just broke. I'm thinking about replacing it with a solid state drive. I would really appreciate some advice on which brand/model to purchase. Thanks!

Last week I bought a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB from Tmall, China's largest online retailer, at 679RMB= $110.

Last night I took out all the screws on the back of the laptop, which i bought in the year of 2011, a pretty old one i guess. Luckily, the BIOS recognized the SSD drive right after i switched it on and then installed windows 7 ultimate. The installation process went smoothly, and enountered no problem. btw, my laptop is ACER ASPIRE 4253.. I believe the chipset has been updated for so many time i cannot number.

It turns out the booting of win7 is much faster than the previous HDD. Yet 34s was out of my expectation. I have thought that it might be within 10s of booting, actually it is not like that.

First, prepare a USB...

The stock drive had 640GB of space. I'm not sure if I need that much, but I'll have to download a few stats programs for my work that take up a lot of space, along with a lot of papers I reference and all of the normal things. I think I'd like at least 400 or so.

Thanks! Do you know what makes that model so much more expensive than other samsung SSDs like, say, the 500GB 850 EVO? Does it perform that much better?

Oh my, that is expensive, an 850 evo would be a great choice.

First, prepare a USB bootable drive, and all the drivers needed after the installation of the new windows system. And you will find that 4K alignment is absolutely not a problem. but before you install the system, please make sure you have had change SATA mode from IDE into AHCI in BIOS.

Good luck, bro
