Ok so I recently fixed up one of my older computers with a core 2 quad. It had a bad power supply and graphics card. I put a sapphire radeon r9 270 and a EVGA 430w power supply in there, and installed windows 7 and it was working like a charm. But I am on about day 4 and nearly everytime i get into a game, It can take anywhere from 2 minutes to one hour but the game freezes and my monitor goes into standby mode. once i move my mouse around it starts back up, and I close the game. If i try to get into another game, It blue screens upon startup. It only happens with gaming, If im just surfing the web its fine. The blue screen says, "Attempt to reset display driver and recover from timeout failed"

Solution
The graphics card is trying to draw power from the PSU. The PSU can't supply it and the graphics card cuts out or glitches. The processor doesn't know why the GPU failed and tries to reset it - probably within the period it's still not getting power. Voila.

Power supplies are at the heart of your entire build. Skimp there and it will come back to bite you in almost any place.
