Will the i7 4790k be enough to last two years and still run new games on Recommended settings?? Even high demanding titles. I know it can do that now, but can it do that in a few years?? If u dont think it can, what do suggest under $400.

For now, quad core will run anything fine. Heck, people even run modern games on a dual core and still do fine. Bottom of the line is, gaming experience mostly depends on the GPU and not the CPU. Don't get me wrong, CPU still matters but when you are gaming, It's the GPU that's doing most of the work.

Will be different when DirectX 12 comes out. :D

We can't know. Maybe tomorrow launches a new title requiring an I7 5960x minimum.

But since game developers usually work with hardware that's available/mainstream at the time and intel doesn't make huge leaps in performance, it should do for 3-5 years.

I hope so that's what i'm running. I doubt that it will be a problem at all I just retired my 750 at the start of the year. I was playing battlefield 4 and still getting 60 fps With about 80% cpu usage But it did have it over clocked a little. Now i get maybe 40% at even higher frames. Next thing i plan to add is a pcie based ssd. Can't wait. Zoom Zoom

my first gen i7 from 2010 hasn't had any issues.. I don't play super intensive games typically though. now that I have the 4790k though I plan on it lasting at least 5 years before I upgrade it. the only time I ever had issues was while multiboxing 5 accounts and streaming my gameplay at he same time... which isn't very typical.
