I assume that you've tried the drive with a different computer/device and you had no luck, if you've decided to open the enclosure.

I can't open dropbox, but I think I know what you mean. It's probably one of our newer drive models with proprietary connectors. As I remember the thread was about a different brand drive and I'd have never recommended opening a WD external drive's enclosure if I knew that, because I'm well aware of the proprietary connectors and that this wouldn't work. If this is the case, your only option remains a professional solution, such as a data recovery company: WD Data Recovery Partners

Hope that helps! Good luck with your data - fingers crossed!
Hey there, hitteshdhumone.

Try the drive with a different computer as well, to see if the same thing happens. If everything's the same, depending on the matter of the problem - you have a couple of options for data retrieval. The first one is a data recovery company. This is basically the best and most reliable solution. And the other one is usually not recommended and should only be done as a last resort - I'm talking about taking the drive out of its enclosure and connecting it internally to a computer via a SATA connection. If this problem is caused by a failing/failed external enclosure, the drive should be detected properly when connected internally to the motherboard. Note that this would void the warranty of the HDD (if it's still under one) and as I mentioned, this is not really recommended, so you should decide if you'd like to take that chance.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
