I just bought a TP-Link N600 WDR-3500 Router. I was planning to use this Router as an Access Point.

So at home, I use Verizon's Services, so I have it's Router. It is the main router. Then I tried to make an Access Point with the TP-Link Router but it failed. These are the steps I took to make it:

I had Ethernet connected from the Verizon Router to a 500mbps Powerline. On the other side of the house, I had another 500mbps Powerline connected to my TP-Link. I set up the TP-Link following the instructions online. First, I set the same SSID, set the same encryption key, set the same password, changed the channel (My Verizon router was channel 1 and this one I made channel 6), and I also set DHCP server to off.

This was all working for 5 or 6 hours, but then I just had no internet. The wifi bar on my windows 8.1 computer had a yellow triangle! Help, what did I do wrong?

Do other devices have internet connectivity when the Windows 8.1 computer loses connection?

If the connection truly worked for 5 or 6 hours then you probably did not do anything wrong.

Maybe some sort of interference on Channel 6 occurred....

Or possibly something along the Powerline/TP-Link connection.

Try connecting the Windows 8.1 computer to the internet by bypassing either the Powerline connection or the Access Point one at a a time.

The idea being to eliminate one possibility at a time to narrow the problem. Please post more accordingly. Thanks.

I have already tested each device. All devices in my house are having this problem and I currently am running windows 8.1

I have also tested the power line and it is working fine. Also the router has been already returned and this is the second one from the warranty so someone please help. What is wrong?

Thanks.

As I orignally commented you may not have done anything wrong with regards to the Access Point setup and configuration especially it did work at first.

If no devices anywhere on your network are now not connecting to the internet then we need to restart with the troubleshooting......

Do you have a cable modem before the router? If so, what model? What model is your Verizon Router?

Can you get to the internet by connecting the Windows 8.1 computer directly to the cable modem (if you have one) or by connecting directly to the Verizon Router?

Test as applicable:

Test 1: Outside line in ----> Cable Modem ----> Computer.

Test 2: Outside line in ----> Cable Modem ---> Verizon Router ----> Computer.

Test 3: Outside line in ---> Verizon Router -----> Computer.

That will tell you if connectivity is still possible under your original configuration.

If the applicable connection path above does not work then call Verizon so they can check things from their end.

If all is well then try to get back to your original setup.

Once your original setup is restored and working then reset the Access Point router to default settings, reconfigure, double check all settings and try again. Please note your settings and provide more details regarding any continued loss of connectivity.

Alright, so first things first.

I have Verizon Fios and I checked with them to make sure everything is going right.

The model is MI424WR-GEN3I for the Router. Just FYI, I don't have a modem, the Verizon router does both jobs, therefore there is a CoAx cable connecting to the Verizon Router/Modem and thats where the internet comes from.

I have tested the wifi and ethernet from the Verizon Router and both work perfectly fine. The problem is when it comes to the secondary router. I have reset the router and did the configuration again, and the access point still does not work.

FYI the TP-Link Router I have is the TL-WDR3500. It is unlike Asus which has an Access Point feature, you have to manually configure it. If possible, could you give me detailed instructions on how to do it?

Thanks alot :D
