Does a Fast Refresh Rate make games run more smooth?

My game seems limited to 30 FPS. If I don't use vertical sync I will be able to see my screen refreshing. I was thinking of getting an OLED or a monitor with a fast refresh rate. What are people's thoughts on this?

I'm playing the witcher 3.

If you're limited to 30fps, a new monitor isn't going to help you. The slowest monitors today refresh as high at 60hz. You're seeing limitation in either your CPU, your graphics, or the code of the game. I don't know Witcher 3 at all, so I can't rule out a game issue. Most likely, it's the graphics that's limiting your performance.

He hasn't provided the necessary information for you to assume that really. All he says his game is limited to 30 fps when he has Vsync on. Might be a 30 Hz monitor or it might be sparse V-Sync.

System specs, Viscte?

There has only been one 30Hz monitor with general availability in the last decade, a Dell 4k monitor. It is highly unlikely that he has one, and he stated he doesn't use v-sync. So I started there.

Now, if we can get some other system specs, that would tell more.

But I want to play in 8k. I can run it pretty well, I only need around 5 more frames to run it at 30 FPS and the only thing that seems to be stopping me is having to use Vsync which lowers my frames a bit. I feel if my monitor was just a bit faster it would be able to keep up with the images on the screen.

Listen, I need to run this game in 8k. The Aliasing drives me nuts. His chainmail armor is literally crawling.

Dual Titan X's, that want makes him think he can run it in 8k. We're talking dual $1200 video cards.

Seriously, that res would even be a strain for those cards. Dial DSR back a notch.

I don't want to rely on biased render techniques to achieve my result. I want true high definition, not post processing. As I said, I am close. There must be a better way. Thanks for everyone's help so far.

I'm sorry to say or if I sound harsh but that is nonsense. You've got your priorities all wrong.

Post processing doesn't look bad and is supposed to be part of your game aswell as it boosts your performance all the way into the skies compared to going for highest resolution possible.

You've got graphics prioritised too high.

Build a time machine. You're already pushing your GPUs to the edge of their performance - 8K resolution pushes four times as many pixels as 4K.
