I hate the idea of smartphones but finally caved because I needed internet while away from work and I have no internet at home. I found out how expensive data is, omg. How can I block all images, videos, and other data so that only text shows while browsing the web on this smartphone? I got firefox for android on my phone so if there's a firefox app that will view sites in text-mode that would be great. I looked but found nothing at all so far.

Help!

I know there are add-ons for it, but I've never tried it. Textise, for instance.

I have adblocker and noscript running. Together these take care of a large number of things, certainly the more data intensive animated pictures that tend to be ads or plugins get blocked automatically, but don't create an entirely picture free site.
And it can be rather annoying if you browse around a lot and don't stick to the same bunch of sites.

The new desktop firefox came with a "read as text only" button. And I would love to see that 1) on my mobile device 2) as an option BEFORE i load the page.

No one knows how to block videos, images, etc in order to greatly reduce data usage? What is this, a world ruled by the phone companies who want to squeeze every dollar they can out of us?

You can set some apps (facebook for example) to not autoplay/download vids, but there is little way to do this through the mobile browser. You can set the phone to limit data use by turning off background data and also to shut off data when your phone reaches its cap. This is done in settings - mobile data - check the limit data option - enter your billing cycle (when data resets)
Somewhere there should be a dropdown options menu or other option you can click that restricts background data.
This will free up some data for sites that might be heavier usage.
