Is My Comp Overheating?

I just built my 1st gaming rig about a week ago and it runs fine plays batman arkham origins and everything but while I was playing it about an hour ago my comp froze and I had to shut it down manually (the comps fine now by the way.) the temp was at 68 degrees celsius and a friend disregarded my heatsink 212 evo coolmaster I had and instead we used the heatsink that came with the core i7 processor.

SPECS
core i7-4790
EVGA GTX 960 4gb
16gb RAM
MSI Gaming 5 motherboard
3 case fans (not including the heatsink fan and graphics card fans
EVGA 750 WATT psu gold

Maybe a CPU intensive program was running in the background, putting strain on the CPU, probably a one off thing, but if it happens again without reason then you have a problem. As synpaul said, the hyper 212 is better than the stock cooler.

The 212 evo should do better than the stock cooler. Could have been too much or too little thermal paste. Maybe the pins weren't fully locked in while using the stock cooler? If using the 212 evo, did you tighten the middle screw under the heatsink fins to increase contact pressure?

Nope and no we only used the thermal paste that was attached to the heatsink no extras and I was playing labor intensive games for a while and after it happened I ran my antivirus just to make sure and there was nothing there. After that I ran batman Origins again and had no problems.
