I just bought a new i7-4790k from microcenter and it was stolen from my car because I forgot I left one of the windows on the back passenger side rolled down..clumsy me. Does anyone know of any way of tracking down the processors serial number or have it on a blacklist or something from being used??

If you didn't install tracking software, then it has vanished. File a police report, and attempt to claim it on your renters or homeowners insurance. You probably can't claim it on the auto policy, but you could always ask your insurance agent.

Not sure the police would do much at that point so if I was OP I would consider it lost. Of course, if he really wanted it back he could try. But I'm just saying not to get hopes up

I would say it's a sad loss. Never hurts to try, doubtful it'd be covered under any sort of insurance. If it were, the fact the window was down and it wasn't properly secured would likely toss any kind of insurance claim anyway. File it on taxes as 'community donation'? You have the receipt after all.

Unfortunately not. Years ago (Pentium III I think) they had something like this, or at least had the intention to, but worries about privacy (the idea that websites you visit can identify/track you via your unique CPU serial number) put an end to it.

If it ever gets found it can be identified as yours via the serial number so that's another reason for reporting the theft, but aside from that there's little you can do.
