I was wanting to do some youtube voiceovers and streaming on twitch, but my headset microphone is not very good. So I want to buy a new microphone, but I a m not sure if I should buy a xlr (since you need to buy extra parts) or a plug and play USB. Therefore I would like to know more about price, quality and maybe some examples.

Thank you

If you have the money a USB interface simply cant match the quality of the XLR with phantom power.
However, like I said, you will need phantom power to get the XLR to work, and the best way to do so is usually with a mixer that provides power which range over 100 dollars. You will be able to tune the mic to your preference this way as well.

Overall, unless you have a large basis for your steams/videos, the extra cost likely wont be worth it for you.

The two examples I use are the AT2020 which comes in XLR and USB, and the AT2035 which is XLR.

Thanks, but if I were to choose a xlr setup would I only need a mic + mixer, or are there more things needed.

You simply need to provide phantom power to XLR, and that is about all the extra you need.
The mixer output goes to the PC, usually 1/4" to 3.5 or USB, and it provides power (make sure if you do get one it has phantom power)

You may want things such as a pop filter, boom arm, and shockmount etc.

I was looking at doing something similar. Is there a big enough difference between usb and xlr to justify a 100 audio interface for the at2020?
