Hey guys,

Just a simple question - would an i5-4670 bottleneck a GTX 980 Ti?

I'm considering an upgrade from my GTX 970, however, today I ran the Firestrike test for the first time and received an achievement called "Brawn", which apparently means that my CPU is holding back my GPU. Could that be true?

If so, it kinda worries me that changing my graphics card could result in even bigger bottleneck because of the processor. Is this something I should consider, or is an i5-4670 okay for a GTX 980 Ti? Please note that the CPU is not unlocked (non-K) - didn't know better when I first bought it.

Cheers,
Ruiner

Very few games will be so CPU heavy that you will see a CPU bottleneck. And when they are it will be minor.

Also bear in mind...Steam Achievements are not a scientific measure of performance. ;) Just saying...

Weird, i5 4670 has maximum turbo boost of 3.8 GHz. An i5 4670K overclocked to 4 GHz won't bottleneck GTX 980 Ti Dual SLI - http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2683333/4670k-4ghz-bottleneck-980.html.

Your i5 shouldn't bottleneck GTX 970.

Did you have any other processes open?

yes in a cpu intensive multithreaded load situations 4 threads are not enough. even the 4690K on 4,5Ghz can be abottleneck for a gpu like the 970 , 980 or 980ti. however these situations are not frequent in general gaming, but can happen in games like: ac unity, gta 5

I Have I5 4670K Processor Running At Stock Clocks And MSI GTX 980Ti Gaming 6G Graphics Card And Yes I5 4670K Bottlenecks GTX 980Ti In Many Games In 1920x1080p Only.
I5 4670k Never Bottlenecks GTX 980Ti In 4k And 2560x1440p lolxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
In 1920x1080p My GTX 980Ti GPU Load Gets 50 To 60% And CPU Load 95%
By The Way I5 4670K Is Very Powerful Processor
