Hey guys,

I have some spare parts lying around after I did some upgrading on my gaming pc, so I want to repurpose them and make a small server for media purposes (mostly for videos and storing backup data if possible). Here are the parts I have so far:

AMD FX-6100 3.3Ghz CPU
Asus M5A78m-lx plus motherboard (mATX)
Cougar spike mATX tower
Kingwin 650w PSU ( I decided to not use this in my gaming pc because it was not recommended by a lot of people for gaming; rarely been used but it should work fine; if you think something else would work feel free to shoot me suggestions)

What do you guys suggest for storage, ram, and OS? I wanted to try RAID 0 with 2 1TB HDD's but I've only read articles about it; never set it up before.

Any help would be appreciated. This is new ground for me building-wise and I hope it turns out well.

A RAID 0 should only be used alongside an actual backup. For a home server situation, a RAID 0 is quite useless.

RAM? Any 4 or 8GB
OS? Depends on how in depth you want to get. But anything WIn 7 Home Premium or above would work just fine.
Or Linux, if you want to delve into it.

For storage? Sure. I just got 2 WD Greens, 3TB for $100 each.
One of them broke in short order, though....awaiting its replacement in the mail.
