How to set up my own router for ATT U-Verse?

Hi, so I have ATT U-Verse and we have the main basic router that they gave us. I am wanting to use my own router for the purpose of media prioritizing. I play my consoles a bit and I always seem to lag when someone else in the house is watching YouTube or other high bandwidth tasks.

Now the basic router ATT gave us has no media prioritizing and I have a Linksys WRT AC1900 router that has media prioritization. I was wondering is there a way that I can use my own router to take the place of the ATT router?

Thanks!

It depends on what you have. Att has been calling simple dsl uverse sometimes and that they will likely let you replace. The other systems that generally allow bundled tv over the same connection they will not let you replace the device.

In both cases though you can use the DMZ option to send all the traffic to the second router. It would be nice if they allowed bridge mode but last time I saw one of these units it did not have that as a option.

Be aware most router can only prioritization traffic you send...ie upload. If your problem is download over utilization the ISP has already discarded the data by the time your router gets it.
