In my house i have both my cable modem, and router in the basement, both are obstructed by a cabinet. How its all hooked up is theres a Coaxial outlet on the wall that has a 3 way splitter that splits out to a TV providing basic cable ATM, and the modem providing the internet. Outside my house i have a box that has one single line it that leads out to the street (im assuming thats the main line in), and from that box coaxial cables run all around my house providing cable to the bedrooms, and main room so everything is connected together via that main box. Im not sure if the wall plug is wired to that main box, or not i just know that were the modem is hooked up.

Can i move my router, and modem to my living room were my HDTV DVR is hooked up? Either id wont the router, and modem to sit atop the cable box being split between the HDTV DVR, and itself, or have it split off, and run to my desk about 10 feet away. Would any of this be possible, thanks for all the help in advanced?

You want the cable modem with as few splitters as possible but if you have good signal it does not matter a lot.

I suspect what is outside is just a larger splitter connecting all the rooms. It should work fine to move the modem to any live port in the house. All you can do is try there really is no way to tell how cabling runs unless you have some special cable tester. You may want to look in the box outside and see how things are connected if it doesn't just work.
