I have an HP Color Laser Jet Printer CP4025. The printer drivers and are installed and the computer recognizes that it is there. However, when I go to print, nothing happens and then after a few minutes I get the error. I ran an HP Print and Scan doctor to try and figure out the problem and I get the error: "Port Match: Wrong Port Configured" when I look up solutions to this, they tell me that I need to connect to a usb001 port, however I have no USB ports listed in my suggested port lists. The one it is currently connected to is DOT4_001 (the default one that it went to). I have worked hours trying to fix this issue and I have no idea what I need to do. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, I tried setting the BIOS to default I made sure all the drivers were there. Nothing seems to work.

Hi bbjurstrom,

Are you connecting the USB cable directly to computer? I ask because DOT4-001 is a virtual port. I do have an idea as to what we could try at this point to get the computer pointing to the right port. Please open Device Manager and check for any printer entries, under Universal Serial Bus Controllers look for USB Printing Support or anything with a yellow exclamation mark or unknown device. Right click and uninstall the device.

Now that the Device Manager is cleaned up a bit, we can unplug the printer USB cable, shut down the printer, and then restart it again. Do not connect the USB cable yet. I'd suggest uninstalling the software again, and reinstalling, but waiting until the software prompts you to connect the USB cable, don;t connect it before the software asks you to.

Please let me know if these steps resolve the issue, or if you require further assistance. Thanks. :)

Lisa.

I have the exact same circumstance! I tried moving the printer from an Ethernet connection to a USB connection. It worked fine on Ethernet for years. After I did that, I can get the computer and the printer to communicate to each other. The printer will whirr like it wants to print something, but it does not physically print. I try sending test outputs to the printer from Control Panel, and the PC doctor, with no results. I too am routed to this DOT4-002 port, which I do not understand. I have tried a dozen myriad ways to reconnect the printer and computer, with no effect.

My question to the HP rep is this: could the drivers be the culprit? If we reverted back to an old driver set, could that fix the problem?

Let me know if either of you have found a solution to the problem in the past 2 weeks. Thanks.

Hi Susan, I don't have a confirmed solution yet, but I do have an idea as to what you can try. Please disconnect the USB cable and complete the following steps:

Hold down the Windows Logo key on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box, type %temp%
Delete all files and folders from the temp folder. Choose skip if any pop ups appear saying any of the files could not be deleted
Uninstall the software again - Uninstalling the Printer Software Instructions > http://ow.ly/Pe94u
When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
Follow these steps to reset the registry settings and options for Windows Installer.

Hold down the Windows Logo key on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box
In the Open box, type msiexec /unregister, and then click OK.
Hold down the Windows Logo key on the keyboard and the 'R' to open the run box
In the Open box, type msiexec /regserver, and then click OK
*Note: there is a space between the c and the /

If you have any difficulty with this step, please use this link to perform it another way. - http://ow.ly/Pe9aW Restarting Windows Installer
Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tool < How to Delete files using Disk Cleanup > http://ow.ly/Pe9k8
Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
Use the following steps to delete the printer from device and printers, and the driver from the server properties.

1. In the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder

2. Choose ‘Print server properties’.
Win XP – With no printer selected, click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows Vista – With no printer selected, press ‘Alt’ then click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows 7/8 and 8.1 – Select any printer in the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and click ‘Print Server properties’ above.

3. Click on the ‘Drivers’ tab at the top of ‘Print server properties’ window

4. Choose the printer you want to uninstall and click ‘Remove’

5. Choose 'Remove driver only'

6. The next screen will give a warning, letting you know that deleting the driver package will remove it from the system. Click ‘Yes’ to say that you are sure you want to do this.

If documents are stuck in the print spooler, you may see an error, cancel any documents pending in the print queue, or try restarting the print spooler, then try to remove the driver from ‘Print server properties’ again. If it still won’t remove the package, restarting the computer and the printer should resolve this ‘in use’ error and allow the driver to be removed. > http://ow.ly/Pe9Q0

If the you continue to get an 'in use' message follow the steps in the document here; The Specified Printer Driver is Currently in Use > http://ow.ly/Pe9WX

Restart the computer
Download the software for your printer > http://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html

Please do not connect the USB cable until the software prompts you to.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue. Thanks. :)
