Hello guys, I am trying to put together a gift for my brother and I normally do these kinds of things by myself, but i've been away from the hardware world for a while now and the last time i built a rig myself i had constant bsods that drove me mad. As the title says I saved up about 3000$. And i'll spend that money on the rig of the computer only. No monitors, keyboards etc. only the case and whats inside of it. (GPU, CPU, motherboard, Power supply, Rams, Hard Drive, SSD hard drive, Case, and cooling system+sound card if necessary). I have no knowledge about overclocking whatsoever so the components will not be overclocked.

Or, if performance on maxed video settings is not a high priority, here is a more modest rig.

He has a 2k monitor at his place that he also uses for PS4. Also I couldn't see any SSD drives for the OS and other things that might need very low loading times to work properly on the rigs given above, can I just pick an SSD drive and slap it in the case? What are the important points on picking an SSD drive?

The build I posted has a 250GB samsung SSD.

Oops my bad I didn't notice the samsung drive was an SSD. Do you think 16 GB RAM would be enough while using 8gb of VRAM in total?

Instead of building you a system, here are more general recommendations that you can tweak yourself...

CPU/Mobo/Cooler = with your budget, I would go with a socket 2011-3 CPU/Mobo, probably a 6-core i7 & x99 motherbaord. You want a decent cooler, but since you wont be overclocking, you wont need anything fancy. Any decent CPU cooler around $50 should suffice.

Memory - 16GB of DDR4 is all you need to start. G.Skill & Corsair are generally considered the best.

Graphics - two 980Ti's in SLI is what you want especially they are going to drive a 4K monitor.

Drives - get a 500GB or 1TB SSD for the boot drive & game storage, then a second drive for other storage, pending on how much is needed.

PSU = check the PSU Tier post and pick a 850W Gold or higher PSU from Tier 1-2.

Case - with the amount of heat output by 2x980Ti's, make sure you have good airflow, so most gaming mid or full tower cases would do you fine.

OS - since you will probably upgrade to Windows 10, just get the cheapest Windwos 7/8/8.1 you can.

Thank you everyone for your answers, I think I'll go with Archaic59's build while considering modifying maybe the RAM or the hard drives. All the other components look top notch to me.
