Hi,
I have assembled my PC 7 days back.
Since day one it is getting random lockups.
Detailed symptoms include:
1) No mouse pointer movement
2) No Caps Lock blinking
3) No shortcuts key response
4) No HDD utilization light blink
5) Processor's fan speed climbs to maximum
Only way to solve the problem is reset button.
According to my search these are the symptoms of under powered PSU.
However it does not freezes when I game.
I only get a lockup when i do light work (browse through drives, open pdfs etc.)
And the frequency of lockups is further increased when i run editing softwares like After effects or Premiere or max.
My specs are:
AMD fx8350 black
Gigabyte 970-A DS3P
Asus R7 260X O.C edition
8 Gigs of Ram 1866Mhz
Corsair VS 550 PSU
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
nothing fancy.
Can someone tell me how i would figure this out?

Hello Demon_tools. Firstly, pressing the reset button on your case is the same as pulling the plug and shouldn't be used too often as it can corrupt the OS or other data. I recommend opening task manager (Right click the taskbar and select 'task manager') and selecting to order by CPU usage. Then keep it open and try to recreate the lockup. When it occurs, look to see what program is using up most of the CPU. The CPU fan spinning fast is a sign of a high temperature as a result of high workload being caused by a program. Are you using the stock heatsink or an aftermarket one?

Thanks for looking into my problem. It seems that the problem has been solved by changing my graphics driver from Omega (14.12) to 13.20WHQL. I've downloaded Omega (14.12) from AMD's Website. Why they are giving faulty driver..?? I got the hint from a similar thread and therefore I've downloaded 13.20WHQL from Asus's website. I am still wondering why Omega (14.12) does causing the problem.
One more thing , I am getting 35 degrees from my CPU and 40-45 from the GPU...Are they normal figures or something worth concern..??
Lastly can my GPU support "EYEFINITY"???

Hey Demon_tools. The driver itself shouldn't be faulty but as we all know, mistakes are made. It's good to hear that your issue has been resolved. Your CPU's maximum 'safe' temperature is around 60 degrees, so the CPU is fine. As for the GPU, I couldn't find the max temp of the card but it seems fairly normal. AMD's Eyefinity technlology is only available in the R9 series of cards as far as I'm aware, so sadly no (http://www.amd.com/en-us/products/graphics/desktop/r9). If you could mark this response as the best solution, it'll help me out and let others know that your issue has been resolved.
