is it a good idea to use windows 7 ultimate on my minecraft server

i just bought a new server hardware for my minecraft server ,xeon e3 1220 ,intel board,4gb ecc and a 120gb ssd (consumer grade) ,is it a good idea to install windows 7 as main os ? or any other recommendation ? linux mint is too hard to use

To be honest, Linux would be your best bet. Especially a Linux Server, because that will slow down your system the least. However, provided you have hardware powerful enough, you should be fine. I would definitely use Windows 7 if you're not going to use Linux, but go with Home Premium, as it's going to be the cheapest.

I'd be very worried about your ISP though. How many players do you plan on having on your server concurrently? Also, what ISP do you have? Some ISPs are known to throttle your connection if you're consistently using a lot of bandwith. I'd be careful, and maybe even look into co-hosting.

Instead of using No-IP, you're actually better off buying a website and running a DNS redirect using it. If you want to, I'd recommend HostHorde, as they're cheap and I use them for over a dozen websites of mine and family's. If you do that, I can explain how to create a DNS redirect so you can have a worded IP instead of a numbered one.
