This question is regarding ATI GPU's (Grpahics Cards). It pertains to CrossFire options and what is recommended.
I would request any input made by the community be fairly simple to understand. I am not a novice but neither am I an expert and I have zero experience in connecting two GPU's together. This topic may be of help to others later. Please, simplicity where possible.
At the moment I have two graphics cards. One is a 7870 the other a 5870. For the sake of added information I also own an A10-7870k which is an AMD APU chip.
I have 2 computers.
Machine one is using the APU.
Machine two is a mid range AMD HexCore. (FX 6300)
Here are the options I'm faced with.
Should I:
A: [strike]CrossFire the 5880 with the 7870 and put both in machine two[/strike]
B: CrossFire the 5850 with the APU in machine one and place the 7870 in machine two on it's own
C: [strike]The same as option A[/strike] and also buy an R7 250 to CrossFire with the APU in machine one
D: Don't use the 5870.
Or perhaps I should do something else?
In an ideal world I'd want option C. I am happy to buy the R7 250 as it is cheap. But I need to know if the 5870 and the 7870 will work well together or not or would the 7870 alone in fact be stronger? That is all assuming I can even CrossFire different card families the 58## with 78## I always believed that this was not possible but I've been led to believe it now is with certain cards.
EDIT: Confirmed that a CrossFire between a 5870 and 7870 is not possible as suspected. I suppose that was wishful thinking to begin with .
Thank you in advance for any and all advise I can be issued.
