I have Run ChrystalDisk INFO Utility on Aspire Acer Laptop

and the result was: Caution

05.Reallocated Sectors Count

C5.Current Pending Sector Count 9

Would this be of any significance to the Hard Drive ?

I ran CHKDSK which says there are no problems and even did a scan for and recovery of bad sectors it found 4 Bad which it fixed.

but on using CyrstalDiskINFO It still has a Caution alert with the same problems.I do however have a C drive and D drive and the D drive is nearly full because of a recent crash so
I purchased an OEM Windows 7 which i installed on the C Drive and still have all the Old D drive Partition with files info etc on which is 58.5GB and freespace of 5.87GB this could be where the problem is maybe As i can access files and photos there, but i cannot boot from there as it all freezes up and shows the old desktop icons which i find strange ? C Drive works Fine. I have also used Hard Disk Sentinel Utility the following advice

*Performance Excellent 100% *Health 90% There are 3 Bad sectors on disk surface the contents of theses sectors were moved to spare area .There are 9 weak sectors on disk surface .They maybe remapped anytime in the later use of the disk.At this point warranty replacement of the disk is not possible.Only if the health drops further .NO Actions Required. Estimated remaining lifetime more than 1000 hrs

I would be grateful for some ideas on the best thing to do please

Hi there EastSouth,

It seems that the HDD has some bad sectors related problems. My advise would be to back up the data stored on it as the HDD is considered unreliable.
Is the drive under warranty? In case it is, and given the fact that the drive has some bad sectors on it, then I guess it will not hurt to contact the manufacturer.

The thing with bad sectors is that their number can increase really fast, up to a point in which you will not be able to recover your data. Though, on the other hand, the drive could stay like this for a long time as well.

Sometimes, writing zeros helps in similar cases. You zero fill the drive and re test it. Keep in mind that you need to back up all the data first and that you will need to install...

Hi D_Know_WD
Thanks very much for helping me with my questions and sharing your knowledge too.
I don't see any harm in trying the Zero fill method like you say.
Spoke with acer online chat and said the Hard drive is faulty not much else they can do a "possible Fix" but to get it just seen is
55 GB pounds and then to fix more on top. So lets try the Zeros first would the HD Sentinal Be Best for zero fill or CCleaner wiper
from your experience?
Thanks for your help most grateful to you.
EastSouth.
