USAFRet :
All present the option to create an image of that drive, and that image simply goes into a folder on the other drive.
The application I'm currently using, Casper (not free but very good), gives you the opportunity to create a bootable CD. In case of a drive fail, boot from that CD, point it at the image you recently made, and port that to the new replacement drive.
Just to make sure I understand;
1) I don't need a dedicated partition/HDD. The image created simply goes into a folder on any partition or drive I tell it. Therefore, I could put it on a single 3TB partition with my media files, without accidentally wiping out media files?
2) If I create a bootable CD, I still need to do step 1. In other words the bootable CD will not contain the image created in step 1. I can use a CD/RW or DVD/RW disk for the bootable CD?
3) What is the website for Casper? I did a search and don't now what the legit site is. I don't want to download it from cnet.
I will research the other programs you and johnnyb105 mentioned to see if they create bootable CD's.
