Eps12v psu - atx12v mobo can I connect?

No. The only thing that has changed in the last 5 years was to make power supplies compatible with Haswell, since some of the signaling between the CPU and the power supply was changed by Intel. All of the adapters and connectors have been in place for a long time.

Very true but I wasn't sure if an adaptor was required because possibly the pin configuration was different on the connector? Also the instruction specifically state eps12v and have no mention of atx12v
