I am shopping for an SSD, but I don't know what SATA level my SATA cables/mobo ports. So, are SATA levels backwards compatible, like what sandisk said on this resource? And if so, suggest a cheap (40-60 dollar) reliable SSD. I have already found a PNY SSD for $60 at 120 GB, SATA III. I am not planning to use a lot of storage, so the space is suitable.

Solution
SATA is fully backwards compatible. The controller and drive will operate at the speed of the slower component. SanDisk has no reason to lie about an open standard.
