Blu-ray Burner Compatible with Old HP Desktop?

My PC is HP's Pavilion model a6554f, maybe 8 yrs. old. I want to replace its DVD SuperMulti Drive with a simple, inexpensive internal Blu-ray burner. I'd consider an external model if it's not painfully slow using USB 2.0. I'm still stuck with Vista. I know, yuck. Any recommendations?

Also, is there a free software that would let me archive some HD files onto playable BDs? Thanks.
