Win8.1 will not recognize 2 graphics cards

After a new clean install of Win8.1 only one graphics card is visible in Device Manager. I am trying to run two monitors.

If I remove the GeForce PCI card, the onboard card is recognized and drivers, resolution and all is fine.

When the GeForce is put back in, only it is recognized.

Any ideas? Thanks!!

Solution
This is because you cannot run both an onboard graphics and a discrete graphics card, since the discrete graphics card is much more powerful there would be no point even if you could (as the discrete card would have to slow itself down to the onboard graphics level).

Try plugging both monitors into your GeForce card.

Most modern mobos can run both actually. Go into bios and see if there is an option to turn on the igpu. For intel it maybe called multi monitor. Also dgpus will not slow itself down. Even with amd's dual graphics, they run at different specs.

Thank you, I did finally go get a DVI-I to VGA adapter and run both through the GeForce card. Still seems it should be easier to run one from onboard and one from the PCIe card. BTW, there is no setting in the BIOS to configure for both. You can set the BIOS to run the onboard as the main but it did not make a difference, with the GeForce card installed, it would only see the PCIe card. Thanks all for the very quick answer and help.

It is a MSI MS-7592 v1.0, apparently the motherboard won't allow onboard graphics and a PCIe card to be recognized at the same time as I was trying to do. I got a DVI-I / VGA adapter and used the second output on the GeForce card. Problem solved, in this case anyway.

Thanks all for the help. If there is way to get both graphics cards recognized, I'd still like to know for future and another com we have.
