ASUS x79 Monitor won't display, possible ram issue?

First time building a PC, I built everything with these parts http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Fqz43C and all was well. However when I tried to start it up the monitor failed to display and the CPU Cooler fans didn't move. The error code was 65, which I believe is just it saying that's waiting for me to boot up an OS.

Once I plugged in the speaker I get three beeps, one long, two short. I know this means it's a ram issue, but I'm not sure if it's incompatible, the motherboard's ram system is broken, or if the ram I have just doesn't work.

I know the ram on the part says F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL, while the ASUS DIY booklet says I need a F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2 but is that a huge difference? I'm not sure. If you need anymore information to hopefully solve my problem, I'm happy to provide it upon request. Thank you.

**** forgot to include, I let my friend put his ram into my computer and it just said it was incompatible due to the LED code being 53. However mine does the beeps, so it probably isn't a slot issue I'm guessing.

..but is that a huge difference? should not be a problems..

... I let my friend put his ram into my computer and it just said it was incompatible...
what do you means? is it not detected.. or your friends don't using DDR3 mobo?

If it not detected, sound like defective stick, then try RMA the rams..

There is no such thing as DDR3 for AMD

shouldn't be a problem if it's AMD or intel..
in AMD may only runs at stock speed 1333, (if not setup properly), but it will runs...

sound like bad stick.. try RMA.. (claim for replacement)
part's fail out of box is not uncommon...

edit: btw when your friend test it, it only using your stick right??
since mixed stick (yours and his) sometimes cannot work together

He only used his stick when he tested it. It turned on and the LED error code was 53, which means the RAM is incompatible. However my ripjaw ram gives the three beeps. If something is dead on arrival, which part would I replace? The motherboard or the ram?

I'm confused. Is your friend bring his Rams and test it on your system...
Or, If you Bring your Rams and test it on his system... ???

The second is better way to check if the rams fail out of box or not, since we know his system is fine....
Could you give it a try?

If your friends try his rams in your computer and still cannot star, u may wanna try dismantle all, and build it again...
(bread boarding) Try search "Toms guide of no post system", there is step by step guide to identify the problem..
