Hello friends,

About a month ago My PC Shut off while playing An MMO And would not turn back on for about 30 minutes. When I was able to turn it back on It would only stay on for around 5-10 minutes regardless of what I was doing on it as well as this annoying screeching sound coming from the PC. I was able to figure out by monitoring My temps that my CPU was overheating, so I had to wait until about 3 days ago to buy a new Heatsink for the CPU. Now my PC will stay on for 7-8 hours if I am only using the internet, If I run any type or game/program for more than 5 minutes the PC shuts off completely. I still have the screeching sound but I can not tell if it is coming from my GPU or PSU Nor do I know if this would cause a shut down only while running games/programs. I have been Monitoring my temps and nothing goes above 45C.

Specs:

OS: windows 7 64 bit
CPU: AMD FX-8320 Eight Core
GPU: Radeon HD 7850 2GB 256-bit
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 500W
Memory: G.SKILL Sniper 8GB 240-pin
Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+

Thank you,

Joshua

So is Coil whine something that wont cause my pc to shut off?

Yes, it's just noise that gets generated from parts. Usually coils, as naming implies.
Coil whine can happen right on new part or it may start happening as part gets older.

But of course, it can also be because the part is failing. So either way, it's most likely your PSU and requires a change.

It's not underpowered exactly. 500W is enough for his system. However, it is low quality.
But yes, it should be replaced ASAP.
