Hi guys,

So yesterday my shiny new Gigabyte GTX 970 arrived and I was excited to get it up and running. After swapping out my old SLI 560ti's I fired up the puppy.

It did its usual 'turn on, realise theres new hardware, turn off and turn on again' thing that the BIOS does to configure itself to different hardware, and then the problem arose. I have (had as i've swapped it out now but we'll get to that later) an MSI motherboard, and I was getting the post code '99' error. After a bit of googling apparently this means that the board is pretty much ruined and needs to be replaced as not a lot of people have had success repairing or finding another solution. One thing to note is that the PC would instantly turn off after touching the on/off button, no delay just instant shutdown.

After spending around an hour digging out my old ASUS motherboard (same slot, yada yada I just needed to upgrade after wanting SLI and this board only supporting Crossfire) I set all the stuff up to find that now I can't get any display at all. Same RAM, same CPU, same GTX 970, everything is plugged in the right places (I quadruple checked after bashing my head against the desk a few times) just a different motherboard which seemed to be causing the issue before.

I've tried removing the GTX 970 and using the onboard graphics HDMI and DVI ports with no avail. Really not sure what to do here, just hoping that whatever happened when I was swapping those cards over hasn't completely destroyed my whole system.

My whole system includes;
ASUS P8Z77LX
Intel i5 3570K
8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
WD 1TB HDD
Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Edition

Any ideas? Tips? Or suggestions? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys,

Tom

I've tried removing the GTX 970 and using the onboard graphics HDMI and DVI ports with no avail.
Because the i5 3570K comes with the intel hd4000, if you use the onboard intel iGPU, you still can't get any display. That means either the MB or cpu has problem.
Make sure the PSU worked to test it by paper clip. http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=63991
And try the Bench it - Troubleshooting http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1753671/bench-troubleshooting.html And using the onboard iGPU with cpu+cooler with both MB, if you don't get any display or not boot, and I think the CPU may have problem.

Just like what cin19 said, it could be a psu problem, but incase you havent already, try to remove the cmos battery for 20 seconds or so then put it back, and reset the bios of the motherboard using either a jumper or a button on the board. Also, since you have more than 4gb of ram, try to boot with only 4gb. Also double check if everything is powered correctly, and if the power connectors are tightly placed in your GPU.
