Hi guys (and gals),

A couple of days ago I finished building the majority of my new PC, which should be finished over the next few weeks or so once I get the money for a GTX 960 or R9 280X. The first thing I tried to do with the PC was of course overclock it (before I installed Windows mind you).

I went into the BIOS settings and clicked on the big OC Genie button... and when I tried to reboot the rig it hung upon attempting to boot from my Windows 8.1 USB. Tried a reset, and the PC spat out an A2 error.

The PC basically hung-every time I tried to turn the thing on, it A2'd. Sometimes I could get into the BIOS... only for the thing to hang not long after.

A CMOS reset fixed the problem, so for now I'm running my PC at stock specs.

So, the question I'm asking is: Is OC Genie causing my rig to crash (i.e. CPU can't handle 4.2 GHz), or is Windows causing the problem? I'm considering manual overclocking but I'm scared the problem will appear again.

Here's my specs:
CPU: Pentium G3258
PSU: Thermaltake 500 W
HDD: WD Blue Caviar 1 TB
RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 1866 MHz 2x 4 GB
I have a second aftermarket CPU fan (within the case) installed as well.

Thanks,
Josh (thunderkiller1996)

I've installed Windows now, but I'm still a little naive of turning OC Genie on again.

I'll see how Homeworld Remastered and Left 4 Dead 2 run on my PC tomorrow before I decide on whether to try overclocking it again or not.
