Guys I'm going to explode.

I upgraded my graphics card from an old hd6670 to a newer r9 270. Cleaned out the old drivers with DDU and every time the pc restarts, vista tries to automatically install its drivers for the VGA, and I think it's conflicting with AMD's Catalyst Control Center, as I cannot install it.

I'm in a never ending loop of trying to uninstall the windows driver and install my own, but I always end up back at square one.

There seem to be no guides anywhere except for ones that point towards turning it off in the advanced settings of the control panel, but my automatic driver signing has been off for years and still is.

I don't see it in Windows features, and I don't have the gpedit.msc or this would be a million times easier.

I also already have windows update driver settings set to "never check for drivers" as every forum post across the internet seems to suggest is the issue, but it isn't.

I'm off to grab a beer and blow off some steam. Please help before I kick my case through a wall.

just so you know 13.12 is the last amd driver that supports vista .. so if you installed anything else it may not recognize them and goes to install something that can work ...

be sure to read the drivers release notes and go to amd drover download page and use the manually select driver and for vista it should select 13.12 [last I checked ]

go here
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

fill in drop boxes and you should get this

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows%20Vista%20-%2064

I don't know if that's the best answer but it was the first ting I caught on that [ amd + vista] its getting to where amd don't want to support nothing but whats the latest out .. so far there new 300 cards only support 7 and 8.1 64 that's it ..

and this was the reason I went to 7 cause amd just dropped new support I liked vista more then I do 7 . still use vista on my secondary rig so I can do things 7 cant [ lol ]

just to add its best to uninstall with the cim from programs and features read the drivers footnotes on install / uninstall [manually]
