We want a decent priced router that can deliver the fast speeds we pay for by prioritizing select pc's while throtteling the kids to guest account with a minimum speeds or so forth. I have read you can take a cheap router and beef it up turning it into a good router. Can anyone help me choose a good router for this? Also beifg able to fully control the guest time limits and disable wifi to them at any time? Thank you.

What internet plan have you got (DL speed)? Cable, DSL or 4G?

How many users? What devices? How many by ethernet and how many by wifi?

How far from the router are they? Any walls or floors in between? If so, what are they made of - drywall, timber,, brick, concrete?

We get cable internet. The modem and router are really like 10 feet away from the main PC in the same room. Its a Windows 8.1 Hp pavilion All in one. Secondary to a windows 7 Dell N5050 laptop. The other devices the kids have we want to throttle and limit are atleast 3 if not sometimes more android tablets....

Im not 100% sure on the speed the ISP claims... i thought we were on an upgraded speed but its so slow..... im fairly sure the old belkin n300 router were usng is having alot to do with the decreased speeds. Its very old and i feel its contributing to helping slow us down.

OK so you're only after a router. Cable is usually fast - 20 to 300 mbs. Doesn't sound like too many users.

I'd get something like - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122326.

I've got the modem/router version and a more demanding family. You can run ethernet cable to it from the PC and everything else can run by wifi. Its dual band wifi.
