Trying to learn, but this is my first time building my own computer and running out of time so could really use help. It can't be much more than 550 dollars, including buying windows, and it needs an optical drive too. Mainly I want to play starcraft 2 on it, but other games too, if possible. What I've heard is that an intel pentium G3258 and something like an evga GeForce GTX 750 Ti (superclocked or ftw version) would be good, but wanted to double check here. Would that work ok? What would be the best parts and case to go with it?

it all depends on the amount of money you want to spend. You said no more than $500 so the 750 Ti would be a good option for your build. As for you chip you had in mind for a few bucks more($77 vs $69) you could go with the G3450 which will give you integrated graphics, better flexibility with your memory selection and speeds, and a faster clock speed out the box.

it really just comes down to what you can afford. Go to different sites such as newegg or amazon and browse what they have, you may even be able to find a good sale. best of luck!

Looks good just know that with only 120gb you will run out of room quick. OS will consume about 20gb and then when you add in games you'll push it to the limits. But for a build less that $500 looks good.

Yeah I'm not planning on having a lot of games or video on it for a while. Hopefully will be able to upgrade or get a new computer before it becomes a problem.

Thanks for helping out.

This would be twice as powerful especially for gaming.
