Hello,

I'm having trouble with my external hard drive. It was working fine recently, but now it's not recognized on any computer I try to plug it into. If I go into 'devices and printers' in the control panel, it is recognized there and says in properties that there are no problems with the device.

The light on the external hard drive works and it makes a sound like it usually did when I plug it into the computer. Sometimes I still have the option to 'safely remove the device' but other times I don't.

Please help.

Hey there, Aditya.

If you're having issues with your HDD, the first thing you need to do - is to backup your personal data just to be on the safe side. After that, I'd recommend that you try the drive with a different USB cable (not longer than 12") and a different computer/device to see if the same thing happens. If you don't have the option to try it with a different computer/device - at least try it with different USB ports on yours. Also, download the manufacturer's diagnostic tool and test the HDD, to see if any errors or bad sectors pop-up.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.
