Hello everyone,

I am building my first gaming PC and I was curious if there were things anyone would advise for/against. I don't mind spending a fair amount of money to have a build that will last a very long time. I would like to be able to play 4k someday when that becomes more of a thing. If this E3 did anything for me, it was convince me that it's time to get a PC for gaming instead of a console. Anyway, here is the build:

-Fractal Design Define XL R2 FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-BL Black/Pearl Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

-EVGA 06G-P4-4992-KR GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support SC (NV Direct Board) Video Card

-2x G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-14900CL10S-8GBXL (16GB total)

-ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO/ACU LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

-ASUS Dual-Band Wireless-AC1900 PCI-E Adapter (PCE-AC68) ... I run an AC router now

-BenQ RL2755HM 27-inch 1ms GTG HDMIx2 Official MLG UMG Gaming Monitor

-Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack with Seagate 3TB Desktop HDD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST3000DM001)

-Seagate 3TB Desktop HDD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive (ST3000DM001) (There are two HDDs as I take a lot of photos/videos and want a second strictly as a backup drive)

-Intel Core BX80646I74790K i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz)

-Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E250B/AM)

-Corsair CX Series 750 Watt ATX/EPS Modular 80 PLUS Bronze ATX12V/EPS12V 744 Power Supply CX750M

-Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120mm PWM Fan (RR-212E-20PK-R2)

-Asus 24x DVD-RW Serial-ATA Internal OEM Optical Drive DRW-24B1ST (Black)

All in all it comes in around $2400. Is there something I am missing, or perhaps even going too far overboard on? I'm open to all criticism.

Thanks!

That is all kinds of bad advice. Previous generation i7 and chipset, Two generations behind Nvidia cards. WD Velociraptor and an SSD? Small SSD at that for the budget. Actually spending more on some of those old components then better equivalents that are available now.
