Just got a new case, so i moved all the components from my old PC into this new one. However, i've used another motherboard i had spare as the other motherboard lacked some of the necessary sockets.

Turned PC on, went to BIOS, set boot order to the correct HDD but all i get is a black screen and a blinking cursor. Any help here?

Honestly I am not sure, I have never attempted this with Windows 8 and from what I can tell you can't do it that way any more. The issue seems to stem from a missing driver or incompatible driver of some sort. If you have your windows license key and don't mind reinstalling programs that are on your computer (your files will be fine) then you can try a repair install. For instructions on how to perform that go here. I would say that is your best bet but it will require you to install all programs onto your computer (although it will retain apps). Let me know if you have any other questions.
