Hello,

Good day,

I have shipped my PC and since I received it, the PC is no longer functioning. The PC turns on with fans and lights (on the case and GPU) working but nothing is showing on screen even the boot loading. The USB ports aren't working either. There is no beeps either from the motherboard when I turned on the PC though the beeping sounds did happen when I experimented running the motherboard without RAMs. I suspect the motherboard and the PSU for now.

Basically, I think the shipment of the PC has caused the problem. What is your thoughts?

Thank you.

CPU: Quad Q6600
GPU: R9 280x
RAM: OCZ 4GB Platinum
Motherboard: ASUS PSG41-ML
PSU: Gigabyte Superb 720w
Case: Lian Li A05-FB

Probably something got jarred loose in the shipping. I'd first try removing and reseating the RAM and GPU and all the cables. Does onboard video work if you remove the video card? Failing that, I'd pull the motherboard and try a minimal out-of-case build. (I've lost screws in the case and had them wedge such that I thought I'd never get them out, only to have them suddenly plunk into the bottom with the right combination of temperature cycling and vibration...)

@norsestar
I have tried to run the PC with onboard GPU but to no avail. I have noticed a shut-off right after I turn on the PC and it's off for few seconds 'til it runs back on its own. Is this a sign of dying PSU even at minimum power usage (start-up PC)? Protective motherboard perhaps?

Some Asus motherboards will reboot themselves to change memory frequency if they can't run at the current setting: the power cycling plus the beeps with no memory installed suggest a memory problem. Pull one DIMM and try the other in each memory slot, then the other in each. One may have gone bad. Do you have another system you can swap memory with?

It could be a bad PSU or motherboard but that it beeps with no memory suggests the problem is somehow related to that. If you have or can borrow suitable spare parts you can try swapping to isolate the problem component. Have you tried the out-of-the-case build yet?

I had wished the issue is bad PSU but I have tried switching PSU with another inferior one and the result was unchanged (monitor is black and no sign of boot load) except that the power cycling didn't take place. I begin to suspect the RAMs and I had switched their slots with one another and did no good. Though this indeed suggests possible defect for both RAMs.

But why defected RAMs won't cause the motherboard to beep if the motherboard failed to detect them?

For now I'll try to do more thorough testing on RAMs and hope this could resolves it.

I just did try to use one RAM a time and it turned out one of them is, indeed, faulty.

The PC runs smoothly as of now.

It seems detecting faulty RAM is more challenging than HDD/SSD.

Thanks for the help ;)
