Should I wait to buy the Radeon R9 390X or should get the GeForce GTX 970 now?

I have a full-hd monitor and the other components are these:

- i5 4690K
- ASUS Sabertooth Z97 Mark1
- Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8) @ 1866MHz
- Seasonic M12II Evo 620W [does this PSU can handle the 390X?]
- SSD Samsung 850 Evo 120GB
- HDD WD Black 1TB

The 390x is just an overclocked 290x with more ram. As such it consumes even more power and gets even hotter. 8gb vram won't help much at 4k as you'd need 2 of them for decent frame rates = huge power and heat. 970 is much more efficient, cooler and henc better oc headroom
That PSU should be enough, as the 390X on average draws 350W, peaking higher.
You can compare the 390X to the 970 here: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/R9_390X_Gaming/30.html
The 390X is also available right now.

EDIT: Note* This is just information regarding the 390X, I would personally recommend the 970.

The GTX 970 and R9 390X perform very close at 1080p. The 970 has lower power consumption, and priced at $330-350. On the other hand, the 390X has 8GB of memory, but is $430+. At 1080p the 970 should be fine; however, if you plan on using 4k, the 390X would probably be a better choice due to the 8GB of memory.

The 390x scores about ~10400 on 3DMark Firestrike
But the scores will probably increase later due to better optimized drivers.
My 970 scores about ~10500 on 3DMark Firestrike

I am not sure what reviews people are reading here. In ALL of the 390x reviews, the 390x outperforms the 970 at 1080p and 1440p.

I think I found one situation where the 970 was faster compared to 100s of others where the 390x was faster. This is at stock speeds though and the 970 can overclock well. I think the 390 is more comparable to the 970 but from what I remember it is slightly better than the 970 too at stock speeds.

The 390x is more a rival for the 980. The 980 sometimes beats the 390x and vice versa. I noticed the 390x does better in more recent titles at 1080p and performs better at 1440p in general.

The performance difference between the 290x and the 390x exists. I understand in large part it is due to a set of drivers. It is not clear whether the 290x will benefit from these or if AMD will not release them. This is what I read on some sites.

Hope this helps.
