I saw several of these threads, but none of the ones I went to seemed to be experiencing quite the same issue as me.

While it isn't appearing in my computer, it seems to run well the whole works of opening, closing, reading. Never asks what I want to do with its contents though.

It actually shows up in my device manager though, unlike the other threads I looked at. I tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them, to no real change.

It's a Hitachi HTS542525K9A300 ATA, in a HP Pavilion dv2700 notebook PC.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium on it, service pack 2.
AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 TL-60 2.00 ghz
3 gigs of RAM
32bit OS

That won't work since nothing but Device Manager is registering the existence of the DVD drive in the first place. It just reads the disc, and goes back to whatever DVD drives do when they aren't being helpful.
