So yesterday I tried to overclock and got it to 4.6Ghz at 1.240V. Ran IBT and Cinebench a couple of times. System looked good. Nothing was crashing. I was able to play games. Today everything was running fine, until I blue screened. So I went into BIOS and reset everything to default and tried to boot. Well it had been stuck on the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen for about 15 minutes. I've tried to power it off, unplug the PSU, and plug it back and boot. No luck.

I have tried to plug my Windows install USB drive to perhaps start from scratch and install Windows. That doesn't to work either. Is there a way I can format my SSD in BIOS and start over. I don't think my i7 is dead as I can get into my BIOS. I think there is a problem with either my SSD or my memory.

My build:

i7 4790k
212 EVO CPU Cooler
Asus Z97 Pro Gamer ATX
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB 1866
Samsung 850 EVO 500GB
EVGA 980 FTW ACX 2.0
Fractal R5
EVGA 850W 80+ Gold PSU

I don't have a HDD. And I just reset my BIOS. My SSD is corrupted probably due to the BSOD. And my Windows boot install drive (USB) won't actually start. It shows me the Windows icon and then the entire system restarts... like a boot loop. I've recreated the boot drive using my laptop using the ISO that I actually installed Windows with initially on my desktop.

So a couple of things changed since I made this post. My computer now boot loops at the Windows logo on a black screen. That screen appears right before the Windows installer does.

I tested the boot drive that I made on my laptop (to be used to install Windows on my desktop), on my laptop itself and I was able to get it to the installer, past the Windows logo on a black screen. I was able to install Ubuntu on it just fine indicating all my hardware worked.

I talked to Microsoft and the three people I talked to were dumb... sorry, but if the only thing they are going to recommend is using the "official installer" and "installing all the updates" when I can't even get into the installer or into Windows to install the updates, they're dumb....

I think it has something to do with my motherboard. Did you update your BIOS before overclocking? I was following LinusTechTips' video on overclocking a Devil's Canyon i7 and he recommended to update the BIOS. I have a feeling that goofed up something. I was out of ideas so I am now letting a technician mess around with it for a couple of days and hopefully he can find a solution.

Yeah I was was following Linus' guide aswell but didn't update the bios because I thought it would be fine without it. The overclocks went fine I was at 4.5ghz 1.2 volts and as soon as I moved up to 4.6 it crashed on cinebench.

Maybe it was the fact that I didn't update the bios but I think I'll have to call a technician in.

My technician was actually able to fix my problem. Maybe I'll safe you a little money. He used the Ez Tuning Wizard in the BIOS that is used to over clock. The process literally overclocked my CPU by 80 MHz and it's working... He choose the gaming profile and it seems to be running fine. In fact my RAM that is set for 1866 is over clocked too to 1900 I believe. Pretty dumb solution, but it's working.
