I recently upgraded from Win7 Home Premium SP1 x64 to win7 Pro SP1 x64 and now on EVERY single video convertor within 1-2 mins of starting conversion BAM!!! Blue Screen Of Death.

I am trying to convert some of my Blu-Rays to smaller mp4's for my Nvidia Shield tablet to play on my HDTV as I only have a Blu-Ray drive on my PC and no Blu-Ray Player for my TV. Before my OS upgrade I layed down the groundwork by converting some to MKV with MakeMKV but the files are waaaaaay too big (between 18-40Gb) and wanted to convert them to smaller MP4's with 3Mbps Bitrate. No dice now. I upgraded my OS to use all 32Gb ram on my rig.

BSOD confirmed for me with Format Factory, Handbrake, AVS Video convertor, Wondershare Video convertor and Cyberlink MediaEspresso 7

make sure your mb bios is up to date so it has the newest ram code. also make sure to reinstall or update the intel chipset drivers and video drivers sounds like something go writen over in the update and there an older drivers causing your issue. try booting into safe mode and clearing out the old video drivers.

I already went into safe mode to uninstall Nvidia display Drivers with display driver uninstaller. I will re-install Intel chipset drivers for my ASUS Z97-K motherboard. I have never updated my BIOS before and have heard bad stories about people trying to flash their bios with disasterous results.

I hope the chipset driver install fixes the issue, if not I will update this post when the time comes.

ASUS mobos are easier than others to update. If it supports ez flash.

Just download the BIOS update extract it to a folder on the hard drive or flash drive.

Go into the BIOS (the tools menu, select ez flash), point it to the update wait for it to flash/update. Done

With earlier ASUS motherboards, people used to use ASUS update which is a program (bad idea ASUS) to update the BIOS. They used to download the update thru the program then flash it after. The prob was in some cases it froze. The user would either turn the system off or press the reset button

Result a bricked system. I did use this once BUT I downloaded the BIOS update first then flashed it using the menu in the program

So far I have re-installed the chipset drivers as well as a clean install of video drivers and no dice. Still BSOD on EVERY SINGLE video conversion attempt. I may try this ezflash but I severely doubt it will solve the issue as I believe it is solely OS related.

An 0x124 stop error is usually CPU related.

It can mean you're overclocking, a program is causing it. Or the CPU is faulty. Or some part of it is faulty (ie: The cache)

If you installed any programs that let you overclock uninstall them. Even if you dont OC

I can't Flash my BIOS at all. I select Ez Flash and the very instant I click on a drive the bios freezes up forcing me to do a hard reset by holding the power button until my rig switches off. My CPU and GPU are not Over Clocked nor are there any Overclocking programs installed. Everything worked fine for Video converting on Win7 home premium SP1 but I could only use 16 of my 32Gb of ram.

the CPU is less than a year old too. The GPU and ram are less than 2 months old.

Looks like I will never be able to convert my movies for my Shield tablet. :'(

Yes. I backed up my crucial files and settings as well as getting my ethernet controller drivers and did a clean install that formatted my boot partition, afterwards I replaced my settings, programs and installed my ethernet drivers so I had internet for windows activation. I am loathed to open my new rig to take out the video card as it is so damn heavy (over 40kg) and I have a very bad back after a high speed car accident 19 years ago and don't want to slip or prolapse my dodgy L4 and/or L5 Discs.

The reason for my OS upgrade is I am a hard-core gamer and need all my RAM and soon (when it is released) I wish to purchase a Sandisk 8Tb SSD for my games and use it as a ramdrive.

Video Converting seems to be the only BSOD issue I have. I have had no problems on any other programs/games except basically every single video convertor I have tried and most likely every single video convertor in existence!

Did you use a program to back whatever up ? Not just copy everything from one place to another then put them back after a clean install?

Sometimes its better if you reinstall programs etc as well. After you format. If you did the above. Otherwise it can and will cause probs later

I copied files and folders to my External HDD and copied them back (Including Users folder with all my settings) then painstakingly re-installed my programs pointing them to the folders on my HDD's. I did not want to not copy my users folder as it has the settings for many programs and over 700 games.

That I would say would be causing some probs.. Even if you dont want to reinstall them. Sometimes you have to

Even if you copied every program, unless you copied the whole registry as well, something will fail somewhere / sometime. Programs and everything that was installed before would have added something to the registry as well

even though the progs were copied I could not use them without re-installing them in same place, overriding files as a new registery was created. I was concerned if the old registery was copied over I would get big issues as the OS was changed.

I tried an older version of AVS and I can't even open a video file because of an "Icaros Unhandled Exception" which is what I get on Cyberlink MediaEspresso 7.

I think it is impossible to convert video files on ANY converter as the OS Craps itself on every attempt.

Finally I have identified the problem. My Noctua NL-L12 Air Cooler is probably not correctly mounted and needs a remount. the BSOD occurred when CPU temp hit 59 degrees Celsius. My temporary solution was to disable the factory overclock in BIOS and the temp doesn't go higher than 48 degrees Celsius. I will need to get technician to do a home visit to remount the cooler before this issue degrades. I can't do it myself as the rig weighs over 40Kg and I have a very bad back and wish to not hospitalize myself trying to shift the mammoth case.
