I've planed to upgrade my PC with i7-4790 + GTX970 (Not going to OC any of them).

But i'm not sure that my 10 years old PSU 650W - 2*(12V*18A) will be able to power the upgraded PC well, according to my mates said this PSU is suck. I quite worried that it might not feed power to the system enough because it has only 18amp compare to new PSU that has 30amp+. How do you guys think, will it be fine with the upgrade?

Check the PSU that I mentioned : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171014&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=6146836&SID=ib5czu2obf000a1700053

Solution
If it was a better PSU, I'd say go ahead. But not with that one. I have a 300W Seasonic that has that same +12v rating. You need a new PSU. That's not a real 650W PSU.

It's not a quality PSU. I strongly recommend a new one. Consider any of the following:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Power Supply: XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($58.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $58.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

The GTX 970 requires a quality 500W PSU that can deliver 28Amps or more on its +12V rail. The XFX 550W is a quality PSU that can deliver 45Amps on its +12V rail, which is more than enough to power your entire rig.

- PCI-E Connectors : 1x 6-pin, 1x 6+2-pin
- 100% Japanese capacitors.
- This unit is manufactured by Seasonic.
- Backed with unmatched 5 year warranty.

(OR) If you don't mind "in-mail-rebates", consider this:

Rosewill CAPSTONE 550W 80+ Gold Certified for $ 39.99 [After $30 in-mail-rebate]
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182068&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

- This quality 550W PSU can deliver 45.5Amps on its +12V rail.
- PCI-E Connector: 2x 6+2-Pin
- Manufactured by Super Flower.
- A whopping 7-year One-to-One Replacement Warranty.

Both XFX & Rosewill are quality "Tier 2" PSUs.

Cheers!

Hi, Haswell processors have deep sleep states that are not supported on older power supplies. In the BIOS turn off C6/C7 state. Google "haswell low power state" for details. Your old PSU will not work correctly in C6/C7. Turning C6/C7 off is no big deal.

I have an old Nakamichi amp for music. The caps in it are probably going to eventually fail. Until then it'll work just fine (and sounds great). Your old power supply's capacitors are probably getting old, and will eventually fail, maybe years from now. While it works use it.
