Hi, I've go a problem where my GPU crashes when playing a game like CS:GO. It crashed three times, first it had about hundred different colured stripes showing on the monitor, the second time it crashed the monitor was all grey, the third time it it was all block. But when these crashes happene I could still hear my friend talking on skype, so I'm sure its the GPU causing this.

Before that I've cleaned by PC using some compressed air and a new unused brush. I've also cleaned the GPU and changed the paste. Then I put the thing back together nicely etc.. But my GPU kept crashing from then on. I've borrowed my friends GPU which he hadn't used for years (A really old hd 3870) and it looks to be running okay. But my normal one crashes when playing the game. I thought it was because of the high temperature, but it was normal just beforecrash (55C-65C which worked fine for the past two years).
Now I have no idea what is causing the thing to crash.

My build
HD 7870
I5 2500K
Ram khx1600c9d3x2k2/8gx
PSU Bequiet 530w L8 pure power.

Don't know if this can be the cause of it, but I had to set my ram settings manually because I've realised it was running at 1300Mhz, 9-9-9-24, instead of its default values of 1600Mhz 9-9-9-27.

Any recommended PSU o power my system? Cheap and good Quality would be great. I wasn't prepared for this so I spend most of my money. Amazon would be the place for me to buy from, so when its in fact the GPU I can return the PSU without a problem. Also quick update, tried underclocking it but now even if I start my system the boot screen is also glitched out, it has stripes etc... all over the place the picture freezes but the system is working fine, does this give any better conclusion?

Found this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-VS550-Plus-Power-Supply/dp/B00TE4XSMA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1434805965&sr=8-1&keywords=PSU+550w
Not sure if its good quality though, I haven't been up-to-date with modern PSU.

Oh and if its is the GPU, could you also find me a cheap one? I want to play modern games, doesn't have to be on ultra high settings though, low/medium will do. Or should I wait until AMD brings out its R9 3XX series? They seem pretty cheap for the perfomance they promise. Since I will not be able to buy from Nvidia any time soon...

See if you can't borrow a good psu to test out that theory.
Or, at least buy one with a decent return policy.
Be prepared to pay a 10-15% restocking fee.
A 7870 should have a 500w psu with two 6 pin pcie connectors.
If your 7870 is one of the highly overclocked versions needing a 8 pin connector, add 75w.
If you buy a new psu for whatever reason, buy only good quality.
Tier 1 or 2 from this list:

Booting into bios is not a heavy power draw. Since you get artifacts there, it suggests that your card is failing.
I assume it is no longer under the typical 3 year warranty and needs to be replaced.

A similarly performing card to the 7870 might be the GTX660ti, GTX760, R9-270 or 270X.
Here are the power requirements for each:
http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm

If you are satisfied with your current performance you could try to find such a used card on ebay, or buy one new.

But, I think I would try to buy a more modern card that is an upgrade.
That would be something like a GTX960 or GTX970. The similarly performing R9-280 and 290 cards take possibly more power than you have.
The equivalent R9-3xx cards are rebrands of the 2xx series with minor tweaks, but they are still old tech. Prices for old and new of equivalent performance are not expected to differ much.

My hd 7870 is the ASUS version one V2. Its no longer under warranty, and I had to replace the cooler anyway, so there no warranty whatsoever now.
I have no PSU to test the theory. But amazon accepts returns for free with no fees. But it is in fact my GPU, darn more expensive than the PSU. Is the a way to maybe fix the card? Maybe just something stupid that can be fixed.
There is no way I'm going to buy a GTX970, but GTX 960 is much cheaper so probably this one.

So I will have to buy a new GPU but which one? I want the cheapest one to play modern games on more than 30FPS, around 40 so it can drop 5 fps and it is still playable. Do I need a new PSU if I'm going to buy a new GPU? AMD or Nvidia? I assume it would be AMD since AMD has always been the way to go for cheap prices and good perfomance. Also directX 12 is meant to give AMD R9 2XX better perfomance than Nividia is that true?
You sure that R9-3XX are not worth it?
