Low FPS with a high end graphics card

I currently have a Raedon 280x XFX graphics card. Normally I have 200-300 fps, but the frame-rate drops to like 80 or less when the game becomes more intensive. When I first built the computer even the most intensive parts of any game I played didn't drop below 200, but now they do. I checked my graphics card drivers, uninstalled them, and reinstalled them, but the problem still exists. Any suggestions?

25FPS would be low. 80 isn't low. Don't sweat what itsn't a problem.

What game and what is the rest of your system? If a game is plugging around at 200-300 FPS, if it drops to 80, it's likely because your CPU sucks, or the game just didn't expect people to want unreasonable FPS.

There are times when it gets noticable. Mostly its TF2 in MVM when hoards of robots come out. You can see my system here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/YQsnwP
My CPU doesn't suck, it was the highest rated i5 when I bought it. And even if its not considered a problem, I still would like to know what is causing the recent FPS droppage.

You can monitor the core usage of the CPU and GPU usage when the drops happen. Based on what is happening when you say it is dropping, it is likely because your CPU us being used heavily during that time. The dev's probably didn't design the game to run at 200-300 FPS, but more likely 60 FPS.

You can OC your CPU some, but it won't likely improve performance enough to not notice the drops. Assuming that is the problem, but most likely is based on your description.

if you dont have a gaming monitor that is 120hz+ you wont see a difference between 300 fps or 60 fps on your monitor anyway you are probably playing lol or something

It is very evident to me when the frame-rate drops, on TF2 when I see a difference I glance down at the FPS and it is always at 70 or less and fluctuating. Even if it isn't a problem, I just want to know what can be done about it because it didn't use to happen.
