Recently I bought Kingston HyperX memory sticks totaling 16GB. I previously had two HyperX totaling 8GB. I added the two new cards to the system. Placing the 16 GB in the first two slots closest to the CPU and the 8GB in the back two.

The Bios and Windows 8.1 both detect the full 24gb. However the BIOS is only utilizing the ram in the fisrt two slots. I can't seem to figure out how to get it to utilize all four.

The bios is running 2501 which is the latest version. Any help to rectify this would be appreciated.

Here are a couple memory manufacturers recommendations regarding mixing memory kits.

G. Skill FAQs:

Q:
I want to install more memory, in addition to my existing memory kit. What are my options?

A:
We do not recommend mixing memory kits, regardless of brand or model.

By mixing memory kits together, there may be compatibility issues such as unable to boot or unable to operate at rated specifications.

Each of our memory kit are thoroughly tested to ensure compatibility within each memory kit. And because we have not tested our memory kit with your existing memory kit, we cannot guarantee compatibility when multiple kits are used.

Corsair FAQs:

Q. I have two Corsair Memory modules that work fine together but when I add two more modules of the matching part number, they won?t work.

A. Each kit of Corsair Memory is tested to run at its advertised settings in the configuration in which they are sold. If you purchase a 4GB kit (2x2GB), then we can only guarantee its performance and compatibility when using it as a single kit. To ensure the best results with more than two memory modules installed in the same system, it is best to get a kit which has been tested to run in that configuration.
While it is definitely possible that two kits would run together in the same system, there is a chance that you may need to reduce the speed of the memory due to motherboard chipset limitations when populating more than one memory module per channel on the board. If you have problems mixing sets, it is suggested to manually lower the frequency of the memory.
